Balls in blue
I really wanted to write blue balls, but I think that has ‘other’ connotations…
These are from a new line, Blown Polymer.
Hollow, and that is a quarter dwarfed in the center.
All polymer. The ribbon is also polymer! I am currently working on some ideas in gray. After a bit of settling into my new space, I am full of ideas. Cannot seem to work fast enough!
I did enter three pieces into the 2009 Bead Star competition…did you? No, I will not be posting/showing the items I entered.

I LURVE your blue balls, Valerie!!! hehe
Especially the drizzled effect.
the ribbon is amazing! Cant wait to see your 'other' ideas
Julz,
Thanks! The ribbon IS amazing. I was not sure it was going to work. In person it has a translucency in the whitish stripes, nicely accented by the opaque colored stripes. It really worked! And stayed flexible. I used 'old' formula clays. Not sure any of the new formula clays will have the same qualities...

The ribbon is one of a kind, what a floating effect! Not to speak of the colors. And the blue balls are gorgeous with their textures. I also like the little extruded and pressed canes you used, the way you used them, to be more precise.
Once again lovely work. The new web graphic is lush. It is calming to the eye, and very detailed on the second look. The banner reminds me of a mokume gane sheet and your name is so playful.
The Blown Polymer are they hollow? If so, how was that accomplished?
The Ribbon Beads are stunning. Hope I get to see some of those up close one day. Using extruded canes in that manner is a very creative touch.
What a tease with the mention of your entries for 2009 Bead Star competition. Hope the public has a chance to vote.
Illaya,
Yes, They are hollow! And fun.
For Bead Star, only the public votes! It is wonderful in that respect, you get a real feel for what the public likes.

I can't seem to wrap my mind around the hollow beads. How do you keep the air inside of the bead from distorting the bead when baking? Or is this a 2 part process. If so then they are even more amazing.
Illaya,
The balls are done either in a one-step or two-step firing process. The blue ones were made over an armature that actually reacted to the heat and melted. It is still in the balls. That big red-orange ball was formed in halves.
I've made lots more since. Just about as addicting as my lentils!
