progress

I have started this twice and am happy to say I have figured out how to knit this! It is from Meg Swansen’s A Gathering of Lace.gathLace  The shawl I selected as my first is really quite simple. It is one by Robert Powell called Rippling Rainbow. I am using a yarn I had on hand, no color changes as the one I am using is variegated. It may be a bit much. I am committed. shawl The first picture is from two days ago. And the second, today.

Amazing.
I am considering destashing some of the supplies and materials I have for clay work. My thoughts are to fill priority mail boxes. Each box to contain books, tools, clay, powders, paints, stamps, etc. Those who are interested to pay for the postage. Why? I have picked up clay only once since last May. I have lost interest. Time to change focus. Please leave a comment if this seems to be the thing to do, if there is any interest.

In another direction…I never mentioned I have a piece in the current Bead Star!brac And it softly rustles just like the leaves it looks like. Great piece to wear.

Love the idea, sorry to hear you've lost interest. I'm still consumed by the clay. Let me know if it becomes reality. j

I am sorry to hear you might be giving up clay activities. But if you do decide to destash, I'd be extremely interested in a surprise box and happy to pay for postage! I am new to polymer clay, but am having a great time playing with it.

I am so pleased there is so much interest! I will be preparing Flat Rate Priority Mail boxes over the weekend. I will then list them in the PayPal box at the top right of the blog. The cost will include the flat rate PLUS the PayPal charge.
Just buy a box and I'll ship. It will be random. I have books, clay and literally tons of paraphernalia. ALL of the clay is old formula (one of the reasons I am moving on. The new formulas are just plain stupid.) ALL of the clay is workable, just use reason. I usually mix several brands, Promat, Sculpey, Premo, Fimo...to get the color and consistency I want. As Trina so aptly stated, "I am a clay harlot"! I will be including unopened bars and mixed bars.
If you fear you will be disappointed (believe me, you won't) just do not purchase!
I will aim for an equal mix of clay plus other 'stuff'. There are absolutely no guarantees!!!

@ artgalcrafts will you please post again? I deleted your post, you included your full name and address and I did not want to put it out for all to see. I cannot find your email! Thanks

I think that about covers it...

Did I hear you right Valerie? You're getting out of clay? What a huge shame! The community will miss you. :-(

@ Cindy,
Clay is going to a back burner. AND I have way too much of it. Time to regroup. New year, new focus.

I started with clay as a painting medium. I lost my direction. I am going back. Most of what I have is distracion. I need to lose the distraction...Want some?? ;)

Valerie,
I would love to take a box of goodies off your hands. :) Can never have too many clay goodies.

I will miss your clay work :(
But,I am excited to see the new things you will be creating
very generous to adopt your clay out to new homes.
I understand the boxes will contain random items
but...... if possible... could I have one that doesn't contain distraction ? I already have plenty!!!!!! :D m.e.

Val I too am sorry to hear you are getting out of clay. But would be interested in one of your boxes. I like to do crochet and knit and have been doing a lot of that lately too. I think your new shawl is coming along nicely don't forget to let us se you wearing it. I love the colors. I am making mittens and such to donate. Love the new necklace,too.

I am knitting also, for me it's a way to relieve stress. Don't get rid of the polyclay, you can make the most wonderful knitting accesories with it. I've made holders for my DPN's, stich markers, scarf pins, and buttons. Oh, and one of my favorite is knitting needle tip caps, I make a small one holed bead, and put a pinch of Blu-Tac in it. It will stick just right to a knitting needle, hold tight, but come off easily when you want.
This page has a scarf pin and the needle holders with matching stich markers.

I think it will be fun to get a surprise box of supplies. I haven't done much with clay for years.

Illaya January 9, 2010 5:40 PM

Valerie;

I would be interested in one of your boxes. If your interests have been redirected to yarn I would love to send you some yummy yarns back. Let me know when you post the boxes. Illaya

I think a box full of surprises should be so fun and may perhaps spur some creativity for the new year. Thanks for the offer.

Jan, you are welcome.

Valerie January 9, 2010 7:14 PM

Illaya, Keep an eye on the blog PayPal widget.

Valerie January 9, 2010 7:17 PM

@Victoria James,
I have made sitch markers. Gave them as gifts to classmates over the holidays. And I have ides for other knitting related items.

I have an entire room devoted to clay. Time to refocus.

Valerie January 9, 2010 7:20 PM

m.e.,
The boxes will be packaged with no pre-planning. There will be a genuine mix of supplies, tools,clay, books and tapes, etc.

If anyone wants something specific, this offer is NOT for you. I will have a hard enough time parting with this. Don't make me think about it!!! :)

Valerie January 9, 2010 7:21 PM

@Tonja,
You are absolutely right! Once you start claying there is no end to what can be done!

Cindy Lietz, Polymer Clay Tutor January 9, 2010 7:51 PM

I get that Valerie. Sorry to see you go. And yes I am interested in what you've got. Will watch for your postings on it.
